Berthold U. Wigger

Berthold U. Wigger (born July 4, 1966 in Heek , Westphalia) is a German economist . He is a full professor of economics and holds the chair for finance and public management at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology .

Life

Wigger completed his schooling in 1985 at the Alexander-Hegius-Gymnasium in Ahaus with the Abitur. From 1987 to 1989 he studied Romance languages at the University of Göttingen . At the same time he took up a degree in economics, which he finished in 1992. He then got a job as a research assistant at the University of Göttingen . Wigger received his doctorate there in 1994 with a growth theory thesis on " Human capital accumulation, factor structure and economic growth ". Between 1994 and 1999 he was a research assistant at the Universities of Halle-Wittenberg and Mannheim. Wigger also studied mathematics at the latter between 1995 and 1999 .

In 2000 he completed his habilitation with Robert von Weizsäcker at the University of Mannheim with a thesis on the reform of the pension system "Economic Perspectives on Social Insurance". After that he was a lecturer at the University of Mannheim until 2001. After a substitute chair for economics at the University of Saarland , he moved to the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 2002 and took over the chair for economics, especially finance. In 2007 he was accepted into the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Finance . Since 2009 he has held the Chair for Public Finance and Public Management at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology . Since 2012 he has been a member of the Kronberger Kreis , the scientific advisory board of the Market Economy Foundation .

Wigger a. a. at the University of Southern California , Università di Salerno , University of California, Berkeley , the International Monetary Fund and the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane .

Wigger is an expert in public finance and deals with issues relating to the financing of collective tasks, such as education and public infrastructure.
