Berti Breuer-Weber (born August 4, 1911 in Bad Kreuznach , † January 29, 1989 in Göttingen ) was a German author and graphic artist . She illustrated and wrote picture and children's books that have been printed in the millions and have been translated into 13 languages worldwide.

Live and act

Berti Breuer-Weber was the daughter of the leather manufacturer Ernst Carl Weber and his wife Agnes Weber. Her drawing talent, which was encouraged by her parents, was evident from early childhood. However, her talent was decisively promoted in art classes at the municipal women 's high school in Bad Kreuznach (today Lina Hilger-Gymnasium ). A few years earlier, the aforementioned educational institution was attended by another important Bad Kreuznach children's book illustrator, Marianne Schneegans . Lina Hilger , the school director of the Frauenoberschule, sponsored the publication of Berti Weber's annual paper in the Oberprima, which was self-published by the Städtische Frauenoberschule in 1931: Hunsrücksprüche, collected, selected and illustrated by Berti Weber .

After studying graphics at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, Weber moved to Munich. There the artist worked as a freelancer. In 1937 she left the Bavarian capital with her husband, the painter Josef Breuer, and moved back to the Hunsrück . From 1950 to 1988 Breuer-Weber lived on the Asterstein near Koblenz. She spent the last year of her life on the Hunsrück again.

A number of her illustrated and texted books have been published by Georg Fischer Verlag in Wittlich , W. Fischer Verlag in Göttingen as well as Franz Schneider Verlag and Pestalozzi Verlag . She also illustrated and wrote the text for the picture book series "Die Bunte Kiste Scholz Monthly Picture Book", which was published between 1947 and around 1954.
