Bertram Schmiterlöw
Bertram Henning Christen Edward Schmiterlöw (born January 20, 1920 in Karlskrona , † December 28, 2002 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish painter , graphic artist , draftsman and sculptor .
life and work
Schmiterlöw attended Otte Sköld's painting school , but traveled abroad early on. In his artistic work he was inspired by Edward Hopper , Giorgio Morandi , Pedro Figari . He is the half-brother of the actress Vera Schmiterlöw .
His artistic work spanned more than five decades with figurative , expressive and coloristic painting. Due to his power of observation and mood perception, a large number of motifs emerged. The works show descriptions of people and nature from Sweden and the Mediterranean countries.
His pictures are in Swedish and Argentine economic institutes, models of his portraits were, among others, Prince Bertil of Sweden , Curt Nicolin, Percy Barnevik and Margit Sahlin.
Honors
- 1974 Knight of the Swedish Order of Vasa
- 2001 the Argentine Order of the Liberator San Martin (Orden del Libertador San Martín), for his contribution to promoting Argentine art in Sweden.
