Bertrand Stern

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bertrand Stern (born November 11, 1948 in Montbéliard ) is a German author living in Siegburg , who describes himself as a freelance philosopher .

He devotes himself mainly critical of civilization concerns with regard to the dignity of man, in a special way of his desired break out of the schooling ideology and aspects of free forming , questions about medicine and health, money and labor, transport and mobility.

Life

Stern was born the son of the educator Arno Stern and Claire Stern in Montbéliard, France. He has two siblings and a son. He grew up in different places in Europe and therefore speaks French, English and Spanish in addition to German.

Stern worked for many years at the adult education center in Cologne , among other things for anti-pedagogy .

From 2011 to 2012 he had a teaching position at the University of Kassel .

Activities and initiatives

He was a co-initiator of the following initiatives:

  • Conference: "Children - the forgotten dimension" (Akademie Remscheid, 1982)
  • “Children's double resolution” called the political “offensive for peace between the generations” in publik-forum magazine (1983); as part of this, he organized the 3rd Regensburg Congress (1st Congress of the German Children's Rights Movement)
  • "Child Rights Action" and its congress in Berlin, September 1991
  • Symposium free to learn - free to learn - libre de s´instruire in Luxembourg on October 6, 2017

In addition, he participated in the “Children's Health Congress” in October 2016 and at the “Children are Peace” symposium in September 2017.

One focus of his activity is on the one hand his numerous lectures, seminars and workshop discussions at home and abroad; on the other hand his publications and media appearances.

For Stern, the term “ free to form ”, which he initiated , is of central importance in order to distinguish this process from what is popularly meant by what, in his opinion, is often negatively influenced by the term learning for many people due to their experience in school . In particular, following Ivan Illich and Thomas Mohrs , he criticizes the dominance and, from his point of view, the negative effects of school learning.

The foundation he founded in 2017, “bertrand stern - free education”, aims to support initiatives in political, economic and cultural life related to education. The focus here is on a changed understanding of education - described as free formation .

He initiated the feature film Caraba #LebenohneSchule , which was released in May 2019 and introduces people who are not educated and who are free to educate themselves. Joshua Conens is the producer.
