history

In 1838 a "craft and lower trade school" began as a Sunday drawing school. In 1846 the "Institute for Higher Education for Businesses" was opened. In 1865 a craft, winter construction and advanced training school was set up by the Groß-Gerau trade association .

In 1954, the district vocational school received its own school building along Sudetenstrasse for the first time in its history. The district of Groß-Gerau was now responsible for the school . In 1956 the Rüsselsheim branch became an independent vocational school. In 1964, today's main building with the gym and auditorium along Darmstädter Straße was opened for teaching. In 1968 the Hessian Ministry of Education established the "State Office of Hesse for Commercial Professional Promotion in Developing Countries". It was attached to the district vocational school.

In 1990, the establishment of the vocational high school as a further school form as well as new subjects and focuses at other secondary school forms were approved. In 1995 the Opel vocational school was dissolved and its students integrated into both vocational schools in the district. At the same time, there was a new division of professions in the fields of metal technology, electrical engineering and business. In 1997, a renovation and extension of the school began, including all buildings and facilities.

In 2005, after the largest redesign of the school since its inception, the occupational fields and school types were spatially combined, the infrastructure was upgraded to a high technical standard, and the teaching and learning materials were fundamentally modernized. The total costs amounted to around 18 million euros.
