The head office has been in Hamburg since 1947 . The BGW is represented nationwide by eleven district administrations in which the insurance claims of the regional member companies are handled. In addition, the BGW has twelve district offices (including a branch office) in which the regional prevention service (supervisors) is active. This works with the member companies to prevent accidents at work , occupational diseases and work-related health hazards. BGW operates ten training and advice centers, two academies and studio78 to support the hairdressing trade with trends, prevention and skin protection.

Its organs are the representative assembly and the board of directors. Both employers and the insured are equally represented. The general manager is responsible for the current business.

In 2017, the BGW recorded a total of 77,366 accidents at work and 34,066 commuting accidents with mandatory reporting, which means that the person was unable to work for more than three days. Of the 12,569 notifications of suspected occupational disease that had to be reported, the largest proportion (54.5 percent) was related to skin diseases. This was followed by spinal diseases (25.9 percent) and infectious diseases (8.5 percent).

history

BGW was founded in Berlin in 1929 . It is the youngest trade association in Germany. In 1945 the administration in Berlin was closed with the introduction of uniform insurance in the Soviet-occupied zone . In 1946, the BGW was re-established in Hamburg and was available again as a separate trade association in West Germany from 1950.

In the 1970s, BGW missed the latest developments and worked with too few staff and outdated equipment. This resulted in long processing times and backlogs. That is why the BGW was "sharply" criticized in a special audit by the Federal Insurance Office in 1982 . In the following years the BGW reformed. Among other things, she received a new management, set up district administrations and district offices and in 1987 moved into a new main administrative building. A modern EDP system was established. In the course of German reunification, the responsibility of the BGW was extended to the new federal states. The BGW defines its work priorities for the six-year period between the social elections .

Actions

  • the " BGW forum" series offers a series of events on health protection in the workplace.
  • With a series of photo competitions, the BGW addresses important social issues. In 2019, under the motto "People - Work - Age", the focus was on the presentation and appreciation of work in the care of the elderly. Before that, the "People - Work - Handicap" competition referred to the subject of inclusion in the world of work.
  • BGW has been making its own contributions since 2017 as part of the joint "kommmitmensch" prevention campaign run by the employers' liability insurance association and accident insurance fund as well as the DGUV . On her website, for example, she gives tips on health-promoting leadership or successful communication within companies.
  • BGW participates in the joint German occupational safety strategy for the care industry. The goals are to develop a prevention culture in nursing and to promote health literacy in companies. In the nursing professions, priority should be given to reducing the number and severity of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in connection with psychological stress.
  • From 2013 to 2016 the BGW took part in the prevention campaign “Think of me. Your back ”of the DGUV. During the three-year period, information events and advice were held for companies and insured persons with regard to back strain at work, at school and in their free time. The BGW also offers offers on the subject of backs beyond the period of the campaign.
  • With the "Live your dream" initiative in the years 2009 - 2012, the BGW showed that skin protection in the salon is very simple and indispensable and promoted the wearing of gloves among hairdressers. The campaign focused on practice-oriented information and entertaining activities.
