The Evangelical Lutheran Berumerfehner Church was built in 1895 in Berumerfehn , a district of the East Frisian community Großheide .

History and description of the building

Interior with west gallery

Berumerfehn was established as a feudal settlement in 1794 by the Norder Fehn-Societaet , in which citizens from Norden and Hage had come together . The place is the only fen colony in the Norderland and was originally called Norderfehn, but was later named after the nearby Berum office .

For the colonists, who were initially affiliated with the church in Hage and Arle , a parish collaboration was set up for a vicar in 1892 . The church building, a prayer house with a parish hall, which also served as a parish apartment, was built in 1895. Berumerfehn achieved his church independence in 1897.

The church is a hall church of brick with pitched roof . The interior receives light through five large, arched windows on the long sides. Two more on the west side flank the bell tower.

In the 1960s, the bell tower was added on the western side, which also serves as an entrance. It has rectangular acoustic arcades in all four directions and a small round window on the west side, which depicts the Good Samaritan in lead glass . In 1969/70 the pastor's apartment was rebuilt. Due to the increased needs, the old community center was demolished in 1997 and a larger one was built.

Today the parish has around 2000 parishioners and has a lively parish life. The parish is affiliated to the north parish, which has 14 parishes with more than 37,000 Christians.

Furnishing

Altar from the time the church was built

The interior gets its unity through the uniformly wood-transparent interior. The ship is closed by a wooden barrel vault supported by carved wooden consoles. Iron anchor beams connect the opposite sides. At the western end, two round windows are incorporated into the wooden barrel. While the windows on the south side are kept simple, they have motifs in lead glass on the north side, all of which depict Christ: the birth scene, the baptism of Jesus, Jesus and the Emmaus disciples , the resurrection scene and Christ as the triumphant.

The small wooden altar with a triangular gable on the windowless east wall shows the crucifixion scene in a round arch field. It comes from the time the church was built and is decorated with a quatrefoil , two three -passports , flanking round bars and a simple cross on top. The altar stands on a wooden table with turned feet and is slightly raised by a wooden pedestal. On the east wall on both sides of the altar there are pries with round arches and latticework.

The wooden pulpit with a sound cover is attached to the south wall. The octagonal baptismal font is made of a solid light stone. The church stalls leave a central aisle free. Additional seats were created in the front area of the church with individual seats.

In 1959 and 1960 , Alfred Führer built a small organ on the west gallery , which has seven stops on a manual and pedal, behind a five-axis front .
