Beschorneria albiflora is a species of the genus Beschorneria in the subfamily of the agave family (Agavoideae). It is the only tree-shaped species in the genus. The specific epithet albiflora is derived from the Latin words albus for 'white' and -florus for '-blütig'.

description

Beschorneria albiflora grows trunk-forming and tree-shaped. The upright, sometimes prostrate trunks are 0.5 to 3 (rarely up to 8) meters long. The upright leaves , gradually narrowing towards their base, are paper-like. The green- blue leaf blade is 60 to 90 (rarely up to 125) centimeters long and 5.5 to 7 (rarely up to 10) centimeters wide. The tip is not hardened. The entire leaf margins are seldom serrated.

The open inflorescence reaches a height of 150 to 250 centimeters. Their shaft and bracts are red. The 60 to 65 (rarely from 50) millimeters long flowers are two to four together. Your flower stalk is 10 to 35 millimeters long. The converging, linear-spatulate to linear-elongated tepals have a length of 25 to 35 (rarely up to 45) millimeters and are 2 to 5 millimeters wide. Their red tips are slightly spread out. The stamens are just as long as the tepals. The anthers are 5 to 7 millimeters long. The intensely red ovary is 25 to 40 millimeters long and 3 to 6 millimeters wide.

The fruits are 50 to 70 millimeters long and 20 to 30 millimeters wide.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 60.

Systematics and distribution

Beschorneria albiflora is common in the Mexican states of Oaxaca and Chiapas as well as in Guatemala and Honduras in the evergreen forest or bush.

The first description by Eizi Matuda was published in 1974.
