The Bessed ( Russian Бе́седь ; Belarusian Беседзь , Besseds ) is a left tributary of the Sosch in the catchment area of the Dnieper in Russia and Belarus .
The Bessed rises in the south of Russia 's Smolensk Oblast . From there it flows initially in a southerly direction through the Mahiljouskaja Woblasz and passes the small town of Chozimsk . The river then turns to the west-southwest. It crosses the western part of the Russian Oblast of Bryansk . The small town of Krasnaya Gora is located at river kilometer 98 on the river bank. In the lower reaches of the Bessed reaches Belarus again, this time the Homelskaya Woblasz area . It flows a little to the south, then turns to the southwest and finally flows into the Sosch on the left about 20 km north of Homel .
The Bessed has a length of 261 km. It drains an area of 5600 km². The mean discharge at the mouth is 27.8 m³ / s.
