The overburden bridge is the last of five of the Combine TAKRAF built F60 . The assembly was carried out between 1989 and 1991 for the Klettwitz-Nord opencast mine in Lauchhammer by today's MAN TAKRAF Fördertechnik GmbH . The bridges are the largest moving technical machines in the world. On February 5, 1991, the F60 went into operation. From its start-up to its shutdown on June 30, 1992, it moved around 27 million m³ of overburden. After reunification , the Klettwitz-Nord opencast mine became the responsibility of the Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft (LMBV), which decommissioned it on behalf of the federal government and renovated it in an economically and environmentally friendly manner.

As part of the Lusatian lighthouses , the conveyor bridge was one of the external projects of the World Exhibition Expo 2000 in Hanover .

Between 2000 and 2010, the International Building Exhibition Fürst-Pückler-Land pursued the goal of giving the region new impetus and the former Klettwitz-Nord opencast mine was also integrated into the concept. The open-cast mine has been expanded to a visitor open-cast mine and the conveyor bridge has been accessible since 1998. At its top, at a height of 74 meters, there is a viewing platform with an all-round viewing house.

The area is also the venue for various concerts and festivals . In March 2017, it served as the backdrop for the music video for Dein Lied , a song by the band Kraftklub .
