Bettina Bauer-Ehrlich
Bettina Bauer-Ehrlich (artist name: Bettina , also: Bettina Ehrlich; born March 19, 1903 in Vienna , Austria-Hungary ; died October 10, 1985 in London ) was an Austrian - British painter , graphic artist and writer .
Life
Bettina Bauer-Ehrlich came from a wealthy upper-class family (her aunt was Adele Bloch-Bauer ). She studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts from 1920–1923 and did an internship in a Berlin printing company from 1924–1925. In the 1920s she was friends with Heinrich Schnitzler , Arthur Schnitzler's son . In 1930 Bettina Bauer married the painter and sculptor Georg Ehrlich (1897–1966). Both belonged to the Zinkenbach painters' colony .
In 1931 she exhibited several oil paintings at the fifth exhibition of the Association of Women and Craftsmen, Wiener Frauenkunst and the Hagenbund . 1931–1938 she worked as a textile designer. Since 1932 she has also published self-illustrated children's books.
After Austria was annexed in 1938, the Ehrlichs had to emigrate to London. In 1943 the artist published her first children's book in English under the name Bettina . After the war she was a successful writer in this field. In 1984 Bauer-Ehrlich took part in the exhibition "Zinkenbach Painting Colony" in the Altnöder Gallery in Salzburg.
She is buried in the Vienna Central Cemetery .
