Betty Wehrli-Knobel

Betty Wehrli-Knobel (born July 13, 1904 in Haslen GL , † February 13, 1998 in Brissago TI ) was a Swiss journalist , women's rights activist and writer .

Life

She was born Bettina Knobel in 1904 in the hamlet of Zusingen near Haslen in the Glarus hinterland. She graduated from business school in Neuchâtel and trained as a journalist in London . From 1931 to 1936 she worked as a career advisor and vocational school teacher in Glarus . Afterwards she was mainly active as a writer and journalist, for example as editor-in-chief of the Bündnerin (a supplement to the Neue Bündner Zeitung ) or the Schweizer Frauenblatt .

In 1936 she married the engineer Paul Wehrli († 1945). From 1951 she lived as a freelance journalist in Zurich and often published under her single name Knobel . Her books Women in Our Country from 1970 and With Women in Conversation from 1974 are interesting documents of the Swiss women's movement .
