Bhutanese-German relations

There are no diplomatic relations between Bhutan and the Federal Republic of Germany . Bhutan is the only member of the United Nations with which Germany has no diplomatic relations.

Official contacts are maintained through the respective embassies in New Delhi .

Relations between the two states are friendly. The visit of the former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker in November 2000 was carried out by the Bhutanese side like a state visit. In September 2010, Chancellor Angela Merkel met for the first time at government level with Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigme Thinley on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations .
