Germany and the Republic of Cyprus have had diplomatic relations since August 20, 1960. This made the Federal Republic of Germany the fifth state to enter into dialogue after the Republic of Cyprus declared independence on August 16, 1960. Both states are members of the Council of Europe , the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe , the European Union and the Eurozone . However, until the Cyprus conflict is resolved, Cyprus will not be part of the Schengen area .

Germany operates an embassy in Nicosia and an honorary consul works in Limassol . The German diplomatic mission abroad was opened as a consulate on April 12, 1955, and from August 20, 1960 it was led by Ambassador Joseph Koenig . The Republic of Cyprus has an embassy in Berlin and a consulate general in Hamburg . Honorary consuls are active in Bonn , Frankfurt am Main and Munich .
