Personalities

In Bichigiu the farmer Tănase Tudoran (Todoran) was born in 1663; he died in 1763. He led the revolt on May 10, 1763 "grănicerilor năsăudeni". In front of two battalions, he refused to take an oath in the presence of the bishop and General Bukov's unit. Because of this, everyone had to give up the Orthodox creed and convert to the Catholic Church. As a result of this revolt, the neighboring town of Năsăud was raised to a garrison site and seat of a border regiment in 1763, which gave this place economic importance in the following years.
