The Lords of Bicken , named after Bicken Castle in today's district of Bicken von Mittenaar in the Lahn-Dill district in Central Hesse , were founded by Anselmus de Bikine in the 12th century, from 1355 on Hainchen Castle , on the outskirts of the Hainchen district of the city Netphen in the Siegerland ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) resident noble family , which died out in 1732 with Friedrich Wilhelm von Bicken in the male line .

history

In a document from Archbishop Engelbert I of Cologne from 1218, Anselmus de Bikine is mentioned as a "free nobleman" in relation to a legal transaction . His year of birth is believed to be around 1185. His son Friedrich is named as the owner of Bicken Castle in 1218 and 1232. In the Dernbach feud for supremacy in the Herborner Mark, the Lords of Bicken and the Lords of Dernbach were subject to the Counts of Nassau and lost their possessions. Bicken Castle was destroyed in 1352 at the latest.

Friedrich von Bicken, pastor in Kesterburg and provost of St. Mauritz Stift in Münster from 1305 to 1340 , acquired half of Wolkersdorf Castle in 1328 and founded the "Wolkersdorfer Line" of the family, which, however, died out in 1398 with his nephew Friedrich von Bicken. Provost Friedrich's nephew, the knight Friedrich von Bicken († 1398) was declared in 1361 as the castle man of Count Otto II von Waldeck ; he was married to Grete von Padberg (1370-1403).

Godebert von Bicken founded the "Westerwald Line" in 1319, which went out in 1555 with Friedrich von Bicken zu Lützelau.

Konrad von Bicken received Hainchen Castle in 1355 as a Nassau fief ( Burglehn ) and became a Burgmann there . Philipp von Bicken, called the old man, acquired the entire property in 1443 (castle and valley "zum Hain"). The rebuilt and expanded castle became the residence of the von Bicken family. Johann Adam von Bicken (born May 27, 1564, † January 11, 1604 in Aschaffenburg ) was born at Hainchen Castle. He was Archbishop and Elector of Mainz from 1601 to 1604 and thus Arch Chancellor of the Holy Roman Empire . The brothers Johann and Eberhart von Bicken had a magnificent tomb erected in the parish church of St. Cäcilia in the neighboring town of Irmgarteichen . With Friedrich Wilhelm von Bicken , the noble Bicken family died out in the male line in 1732.
