The Big 12 Tennis Championships are an annual team competition in the field of US college tennis . Universities that belong to the Big 12 Conference take part in it .
The first edition took place in 1997, three years after the league was founded. Since then, the championships have been held every year after the end of the regular season towards the end of April. They represent a kind of cup competition which, in contrast to the regular season, is played within a few days and in the knockout system .
The record holder of the title is Baylor University , which won the competition a total of eight times.
