Wayside shrine (Kronach, Am Pförtchen)

Front of the wayside shrine with various inscriptions

The shrine in the confluence area of the Jewish street into Am wicket is under monument protection standing small monument in the Upper Franconian town of Kronach .

The wayside shrine, made of sandstone , rests on a simple, four-sided base with the lettering “RENOVIERT” carved into the east-facing front. A short, likewise simple, four-sided shaft rises above the base, which tapers towards the top ; on the east side it bears the inscription “1. JULY 2000 ". The end of the small memorial is formed by a four-sided attachment from 1617, the flat gable roof of which was previously crowned with an anchor cross. The two narrow sides of the attachment are decorated with four branches that are put together in the shape of a cross. There are similar reliefs of the crucifixion group on the main sides . Under the relief on the front there are two house signs , the meaning of which is not clear, to the left and right of them are the numbers 16 and 17, components of the year 1617.

The location of the wayside shrine to which the essay originally belonged is not known. The fragment was in the gardens of the property at Am Pförtchen 5 for years before the top was supplemented with a new base and shaft to form a complete wayside shrine and set up at its current location.
