Bill Evans (trombonist)

William "Bill" Evans (born April 16, 1936 - September 10, 2019 in Eagan , Minnesota ) was an American jazz musician ( trombone , also double bass ) from Dixieland .

Live and act

Evans lived mostly in St. Paul , where he had also grown up. After taking piano lessons as a child, he learned the trombone self-taught and then belonged to various bands. Evans played a. a. with the Mississippi Counts , of which he was a founding member. He was also a member of the Dukes of Dixieland ; in the 1950s he also played bass in the Hall Brothers New Orleans Jazz Band . His main job was at West Publishing , where he was most recently in management.

Evans led the Bill Evans New Orleans Jazz Band , played in the Pig's Eye Jass Band and with the Moldy Figs , in the 1980s in the trio of pianist Butch Thompson , who formed the house band in Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion . During stays in New Orleans Evans played in Fritzel's European Jazz Pub . In the field of jazz, he was involved in eleven recording sessions between 1969 and 2014, according to Tom Lord .
