Bill Hardman
Bill Hardman (* 6. April 1933 in Cleveland , Ohio as William Franklin Hardman Jr. , † 5. December 1990 in Paris ) was an American jazz - trumpet and flugelhorn player of the hard bop .
biography
Bill Hardman played with Tadd Dameron while he was still in high school , and after graduating from school he worked in Tiny Bradshaw's band from 1953 to 1955 . In 1955 the first recordings were made with Jackie McLean . He later worked with Charles Mingus as well as Art Blakey and his Jazz Messengers (1956–58); as a member of the Messengers, he participated in the legendary 1957 Atlantic Session with Thelonious Monk . He also worked with Horace Silver and Benny Golson in Baltimore in 1959, then with Lou Donaldson . With Junior Cook he led his own formation, later the band "Brass Company". In the 1970s he toured Europe with Junior Cook and worked again with Blakeys Messengers . In 1982 he took part in Sonny Stitt's last record session ; In 1987 he was involved in the recordings of Steve Turré . His last album under his own name, "What's Up", was created in 1989 with Robin Eubanks , Junior Cook and Mickey Tucker .
