Bill Orban (sports scientist)
Bill Orban (born April 21, 1921 in Regina , Saskatchewan , † October 18, 2003 in Ottawa , Ontario ) was a Canadian sports scientist .
biography
Bill Orban was born the son of Hungarian immigrants. In his youth he actively played American football with the Regina Roughriders and later with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He studied physical education and exercise science at the University of California at Berkeley (California) and at McGill University in Montréal and received his PhD from the University of Illinois. 1956 to 1958 he worked for the Royal Canadian Air Force where he developed the well-known 5BX training plan . From 1958 to 1966 he was Dean of the Faculty of Sports Education at the University of Saskatchewan and from 1968 to 1976 he headed the Faculty of Human Movement Science at the University of Ottawa, where he was a professor until 1987 .
Bill Orban died of cancer on October 18, 2003.
