William "Billy" Adams (born March 20, 1897 in Blackheath , † December 5, 1945 in Smethwick ) was an English football player .

Career

Adams played for Royal Air Force selection teams during his military service and came to West Bromwich Albion via Rowley Victoria in March 1919 . There he made his debut in the First Division for the reigning English champions on September 25, 1920 against Derby County . Until 1922 his appearances for West Brom were limited by the long-time England international Jesse Pennington , only after his career ended Adams came in the 1922/23 season as a regular player to 40 league appearances. As a result, his numbers were reduced again significantly, in the 1924/25 season, which the club finished second in the table, he was only used once. Adams had the last of his 92 league appearances for West Brom on New Year's Day 1927 against Huddersfield Town . At the end of the season they were relegated to the Second Division , but Adams was no longer used there until his departure in March 1928.

For his new club, AFC Barrow , Adams made his Third Division North debut in a 5-0 defeat by Lincoln City , but helped the team to fourth from bottom of the table in the last few weeks of the season, which made the procedure stand out for re-election in order to have to remain in the league, was avoided. After Adams had only made 13 season appearances in the following season due to competition from Billy Host , he briefly moved to the Third Division South for the Welsh club AFC Newport County in August 1929 , but returned without a competitive game in November 1929 with his move to the Birmingham & District League playing club Cradley Heath returned to the West Midlands , where he ended his career in the 1930/31 season.
