The inland shipping museum in Oderberg presents several historical topics of the Oderbruch and Alte Oder region with a focus on inland shipping. The most important exhibit is the Riesa side wheel steamer .

history

The museum was founded in 1954 as a Heimatstube to display archaeological finds from the area. With the expansion of the collection to include inland shipping , the Heimatstube became a museum. On the initiative of the museum director at the time, Günter Hofmann, the paddle steamer Riesa was acquired by the Dresden White Fleet in 1978 on an adventurous route . The areas of hydraulic engineering , inland shipping, inland fishing and rafting were added to the area of local history .

With the structural changes in the municipal finance area after the fall of the Wall, the museum threatened to be closed and the collections scattered. In 2006 , the Riesa steamer received a new coat of paint through the “96 hours” campaign of the rbb show zibb . On January 1, 2008, the museum was taken over by a development association.

exhibition

On the ground floor, the regional history from the Stone Age to the early modern period is shown with finds from the gravel pits in the area. The geological location of the city of Oderberg is pointed out here. Furniture, everyday objects, souvenirs and guild signs present the history of the town of Oderberg and its surroundings.

On the upper floors, models of barges, locks and the Niederfinow boat lift , fishing equipment such as nets, boats, oars and oars as well as dioramas from the timber industry and rafting on the Oder are shown. Souvenirs, memories, flags and coats of arms of the associations and companies in the region show the socio-historical side of inland shipping.

Large inland shipping objects are exhibited outside. In addition to parts of the ship's hull (rudder systems, ship bows, leeboards ) and ship drives, the main object is the Riesa . This steamer was built in the Blasewitz shipyard in 1896/97 and has an oscillating two-cylinder compound machine as an additional rarity .
