The Biological Station Lippe has been the responsible biological station for the Lippe district since it was founded in 1992 .

The Biological Station Lippe eV was founded in 1992. For the first two years, it was based in the district building in Detmold, and from 1994 to 1996 in a rented apartment in Schieder. From 1994 the historic barn of the Schieder domain was restored and the association moved in in May 1996.

The Biological Station Lippe looks after the nature reserves in the district - with the exception of the part from the Senne landscape plan - and works together with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority. It examines nature reserves, proposes nature conservation measures and organizes educational and information events. In addition, it maintains a herd of Skudden and Thuringian forest goats , which are used in various places to maintain the landscape.

The association was financed by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (80%), the Lippe district (10%) and the Lippe regional association (10%) until mid-2016. Since then, the district has taken over the share of the regional association.
