Birgit Schössow

Birgit Schössow (* 1963 in Hamburg ) is a German illustrator and graphic designer . She became known through the front pages she designed for the magazine " The New Yorker ".

Life

Together with her brother Peter Schössow she grew up in Hamburg and studied at the University of Design . For her thesis she illustrated a novel by the American writer Carson McCullers . Since then she has been working as a freelance illustrator and initially specialized in the graphic design of books for children and young people, especially from the series “ Cheeky Girls - Cheeky Books ”. She now also illustrates adult books for several German and international publishers and works as a graphic designer for film and television. The best-known clients include Arena Verlag , cbj (Random House Publishing Group) , Carlsen Verlag and Rowohlt Verlag . The magazine “The New Yorker” has so far appeared with a total of four front pages designed by Schössow.
