Until the very last moment there is a German documentary from 2008 by Sebastian Stoppe (La Marée Filmproduktion) about rehearsals and the final symphony concert of the Leipzig University Orchestra .

action

The summer semester begins at the University of Leipzig and with it their weekly rehearsals for the members of the Leipzig University Orchestra. The program for the diessemestrige symphony concert that is always in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig takes place have already previously selected the amateur musicians: The Sorcerer's Apprentice by Paul Dukas , Jean Sibelius ' Violin Concerto and the Scheherazade suite of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov . The students now rehearse for three hours each week. The film describes the rehearsals during this time and the progress made by the young musicians. Insights into the rehearsals are repeatedly interrupted by interviews with orchestra members who describe in their own words why the orchestra was founded and what it means to pursue music as a passionate hobby. The conductor Juri Lebedev talks about his personal views on music, conducting and working with amateur musicians. The highlights of the film are the rehearsal weekend, which took place shortly before the concert in Schneeberg in the Ore Mountains , and the concert evening itself.

music

Although all three works in the film are played by the orchestra, the Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is more prominent and at the same time functions as film music .
