history
Pope Pius XI founded with the Brief Cum Minister the Apostolic Prefecture Yuci on June 17, 1931 from territorial concessions of the Apostolic Vicariate Taiyüanfu . On March 9, 1944, she was raised to the rank of Vicariate Apostolic . With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised to the diocese on April 11, 1946.
With the expulsion of the foreign missionaries , the diocese remained vacant since 1953. However, Bishop Anthony Humilis Yang Guangqi (Yang Kuang Ch'i), who ordained priests in hiding, was soon arrested and died in prison in 1957 (or 1958). Since then the bishop's chair has been vacant.
