history
Bitpanda, under its then company name "Coinimal GmbH", was founded in December 2014 by Christian Trummer. Since then there has been a rebranding and Bitpanda received the Best Fintech Startup 2017 award. Today Bitpanda is a trading platform for Bitcoin, Ethereum, IOTA and more with over a million users.
In March 2018, Bitpanda announced that they were launching a blockchain project called Pantos . This project aims to enable interprobility between different blockchains. To be able to finance this project, Bitpanda started an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) and raised 4 million euros.
In June 2019, Bitpanda announced its expansion into other countries. In addition, Bitpanda announced the opening of a global exchange with which the target group should be enlarged. At the same time, a utility token with the name BEST (abbreviation for: Bitpanda Ekosystem Token) was announced, which should finance Bitpanda’s projects. Finally, the Initial Exchange Offering (IEO) ended in August 2019 and brought Bitpanda 43.6 million euros.
In September 2019, Bitpanda presented the new Bitpanda Metals division , thereby expanding the focus on tokenized precious metals such as platinum, gold, silver and palladium.
In October 2019, Bitpanda introduced the Bitpanda Pay service , which makes it possible to pay bills.
In early 2020, Bitpanda renamed the Global Exchange to Bitpanda Pro .
In April 2020, Bitpanda will enter into a partnership with Speedinvest for further global expansion.
criticism
Bitpanda was criticized for the decision not to hand over the BSV tokens created by the BCH / BSV Fork 2018 to the owners. "Deposited Bitcoin Cash (SV) coins will be lost." -
Products
Bitpanda has several main products: The Exchange named Bitpanda Pro (formerly Bitpanda Global Exchange ), which as a stock exchange and professional trading platform for crypto currency is known, as well as a retail trading platform with digital wallet for crypto currencies. In addition, a programming interface is offered for developers and sellers to connect external programs to Bitpanda and to carry out automated payment transactions. The offered cryptocurrencies can be traded both through the Global Exchange and through the end customer trading platform. It is also possible to trade cryptocurrencies with one another. The cyberwallet enables purchased currencies to be saved and stored on Bitpanda's servers ( safe storage ). Bitpanda also offers precious metals such as gold and silver. Only one account is required for all products.
Since July 2017 it has been possible to purchase vouchers in various values for the crypto currencies Bitcoin , Dash , Litecoin and Ethereum from the Austrian Post .
