Blooming nonsense (original title: Horse Feathers ; alternative title: The Marx Brothers in the university ) was the fourth film with the Marx Brothers Groucho, Chico, Harpo and Zeppo Marx. It was shot and published in 1932.

action

Professor Wagstaff becomes President of Huxley College, where his son Frank also studies. Professor Wagstaff ties up with Connie Bailey, who has been hired by the President of Darwin College to sabotage the intercollegiate football game . Meanwhile, Pinky and Baravelli were assigned to the professor to spy on the playlist for the clash between the two football teams. This in turn orders the two of them to kidnap two players from Darwin so that they can play for Huxley. In the end, the two teams meet and Huxley has the upper hand.

background

Famous scenes

One of the most famous scenes is probably the one with the password "swordfish". Chico has to give the password in order to gain entry to the whisper bar. Groucho gets it through his eloquence. Harpo, on the other hand, who knows the password, simply pulls a huge fish out of his coat and sticks a sword into it. This scene may also be responsible for the title of the movie Password: Swordfish with John Travolta .

The song “Everyone says I love you”, which all four Marx brothers perform one after the other, was again the template for the title of the film of the same name by Woody Allen , who was a close friend of Groucho and which was released in 1996 .

Production history

While filming Horse Feathers , Chico Marx had a serious car accident in Los Angeles (he was said to have been drunk) and his kneecap was smashed. In some scenes in the film you can see Chico hobbling.

music

The following songs are featured in the film:

Awards

The American Film Institute voted the film 65th of the best American comedies of all time at the beginning of the millennium.

Reviews

The Lexicon of International Films wrote: “A firework of comical ideas, aggressive and with malicious jokes.” Cinema wrote: “Slapstick and language games never formed a more successful alliance than in the great moments of these comedians (here: the dialogue at the door and the anatomy lecture). Destruction and poetry: what a beautiful program , said Simone de Beauvoir . "
