Black Hawk Records is an American jazz - label .

Black-Hawk Records, named after the former jazz club Black Hawk in San Francisco, was founded in 1986 by Richard Bullock as a sub-label of Aspen Records ; Herb Wong was the artistic director . About 40 albums were released on Black-Hawk, including a. by Kenny Barron , Abdullah Ibrahim , Gil Evans ( Live at the Public Theater (New York 1980) ), Maynard Ferguson , Chico Freeman , Hal Galper , Stan Getz , Dizzy Gillespie , Roland Hanna , Tom Harrell , Sheila Jordan , Jimmy Knepper , Steve Kuhn , The Leaders , Pam Purvis , John Scofield , Sonny Stitt, and Phil Woods . In 2005 the label was acquired by Rhett Smith; In the following years recordings appeared a. a. by Jessica Williams , Stan Getz and Smith Dobson , as well as the recording of Billie Holiday's performance on October 5, 1958 at the first Monterey Jazz Festival .
