River course
The Blackfoot River arises at the confluence of Lanes Creek and Diamond Creek in the Upper Valley , a high valley west of the Webster Range . It initially flows about 25 km towards the west-southwest before turning to the northwest. The upper reaches of the Blackfoot River has innumerable narrow river loops. After about 50 km it reaches the southern end of the Blackfoot Reservoir . The Blackfoot River is dammed by the associated dam over a length of 23 km. Below the dam, the river flows 110 km, initially in a north-west direction and later in a south-west direction. It flows south past the small town of Blackfoot and finally flows into the Snake River. Several irrigation channels branch off from the Blackfoot River.
