Andrei Blaier

Andrei Blaier (born May 16, 1933 in Bucharest ; † December 1, 2011 there ) was a Romanian film director and screenwriter .

Life

Andrei Blaier graduated from the National University of Theater and Film Arts "Ion Luca Caragiale" in 1956 . He then began to establish himself as a film director for documentaries and feature films. Several of his works have been shown at international film festivals and some of them have won awards.

Blaier died on December 1, 2011 at the age of 78 in his home in Bucharest after a long illness. Only a few months before his death, the National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives announced that Blaier had been recruited as an informant by the former Romanian secret service Securitate and that several convictions and investigations of filmmakers had been carried out or initiated by Blaier.
