The Ipomoea nil ( Ipomoea nil ) is a plant type from the genus of Morningglory ( Ipomoea ) from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The occurrence of the plant is pantropical .
description
The blue morning glory is an annual climber that is densely to scattered hairy with long trichomes . The finely hairy leaves are ovate to almost circular, 5 to 14 cm long. The base is heart-shaped, the edge is entire or lobed three to five times, the leaf lobes are pointed or tapering.
The flowers , which appear from December to July, are individually up to five in often dense zymous groups in which fully developed flowers and developing buds stand together. The long, bristly hairy sepals have a length of 15 to 25 mm, they are long lanceolate and have a linear-lanceolate tip. The crown is blue, purple or almost scarlet red. Often the throat is colored white. The corolla tube is 3 to 5 cm long, the coronet is 4 to 5 cm wide.
The fruits are almost spherical to spherical capsule fruits with a diameter of 8 to 12 mm. The seeds are pear-shaped and densely covered with short trichomes.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 30.
Occurrence
The species is spread pantropically and is also often found in culture.
Systematics
The blue morning glory is classified within the subgenus Ipomoea in the series Heterophyllae of the Pharbitis section (and sometimes still under the synonym Pharbitis nil ).
The species is often confused with Ipomoea indica , Ipomoea hederacea or Ipomoea purpurea . Ipomoea indica differs mainly in the broad and less herbaceous sepals, while Ipomoea purpurea has pointed and blunt sepals. The distinction between Ipomoea nil and Ipomoea hederacea is much more difficult, but in the latter the sepals are a little more narrowed and protrude or are rolled back.
