The blue neon ( Paracheirodon simulans , Syn . : Hyphessobrycon simulans ) is a freshwater ornamental fish from the order of the tetra . Blue neons are 3 to 3.5 centimeters long and a maximum of five years old. It occurs in tropical South America in the Orinoco and Rio Negro .
Aquaristics
Since the blue neon is a schooling fish , it should have several conspecifics in the aquarium . The sexes of the neons are difficult to see with the naked eye, the females are somewhat larger and fuller. Blue neons are easy to care for, but breeding in the aquarium is only possible for advanced aquarists. They have no special requirements when it comes to feed and can be fed with dry and live feed. In the aquarium they tend to be in the middle area. The pool planting should be plentiful, but blue neons need a lot of free swimming space. They represent typical fish that are kept in a black water aquarium, where their body colors are particularly evident.
relationship
The blue neon is similar to the red neon and the neon tetra , but the three species are not closely related. They differ in the number of chromosomes .
