Blockninjas is a free software tool written in Elixir , Rust and JavaScript or TypeScript ( React ) for analyzing the Bitcoin blockchain . It enables Bitcoin addresses to be merged using certain procedures and thus deanonymized and visualized. It also implements an algorithm that is supposed to recognize transfer structures. The software was implemented by three Austrian software developers and former students from the Technical University of Vienna as part of the netidee funding program of the Internet Privatstiftung Austria and is available on GitHub . The software was developed to primarily enable law enforcement authorities to analyze and visualize Bitcoin transactions and is available under the software license GPLv3 .

The project won the Audience Award at the i2c networking firday at the Vienna University of Technology and gained greater prominence by participating twice in the Erste-Bank #beliefandich challenge .

history

In 2017 Erhard Dinhobl began his doctoral studies at the Technical University of Vienna. His thesis is that Bitcoin addresses generated for the same purpose also produce similar transaction patterns. In his work he is mainly concerned with graph theory and artificial intelligence . In the same year, he and two colleagues applied for funding from the Internet Privatstiftung Austria in the netidee funding program in order to implement software .

Range of functions

The software consists of three components:

  • Analyzer: Component for processing and analyzing the Bitcoin blockchain raw data and storing it in the database
  • GUI: The web interface of the software for visualization in the form of a graph
  • API: Component for accessing the database via the API
