Carl Theodor Demiani

Carl Theodor Demiani ( 1801 in Dresden ; † January 29, 1869 in Leipzig ) was a German painter of the late Romantic period , who became known in particular as a portrait painter .

Life

Carl Theodor Demiani was the son of the painter Carl Friedrich Demiani (1768–1823) and his wife Johanne Caroline, b. Martini born. From 1816 he studied at the Dresden Academy and from 1818 was a student of Ferdinand Hartmann (1774–1842). In 1824 he received the top class certificate of honor there. Around 1824/25 he got engaged to Ulrike Peters. This connection was broken again in 1828 at the latest. Both remained unmarried.

From 1825 Demiani worked mainly as a portrait painter in Leipzig, later in Hamburg, Berlin and Potsdam. After a serious illness in 1855, he lived in the house of his brother-in-law Carl Friedrich Naumann (1797–1873) and his wife Emma Amalie, nee. Demiani, in Leipzig.
