Bloodclot is an American hardcore punk band from New York City that was founded in 2006. The spelling of the band name was initially Bloodclot! .

history

In 2005, John "Bloodclot" played Joseph and Danny Schuler with the idea of forming a new band. Their plan was cemented by playing the first demos after the first songs had been written. The band was formed in 2006, with origins going back to a Bad Brains tour in 1981. In 2008 the debut album Burn Babylon Burn! . The band consists of the singer John "Bloodclot" Joseph and the drummer Danny Schuler, the guitarists Scott Roberts and Eric Klinger and the bass player Rick Lopez. The album was recorded in Schuler's studio on their own and without external financial support. Admission, production, sales and the associated organizational work and costs were thus in the band's own hands. In autumn 2008 the group was seen live in Europe for the first time, but without Schuler . After the group had been quiet for a long time, they signed a recording deal with Metal Blade Records in February 2016 . In the following year, the second album Up in Arms was released , with a music video for the theme song had already been released in advance. In addition to Joseph, the cast on the album consists of guitarist Todd "Todd Youth" Schofield, drummer Joey Castillo and bassist Nick Oliveri . The four musicians met when guitarist AJ Novello from Cro-Mags (the band Joseph works for as a singer) dropped out for a gig and called Joseph “Todd Youth” to replace them. Both of them revived their friendship and, as a result, Bloodclot with a new line-up. "Todd Youth" and Joseph had been friends with Castillo for 30 years, and Oliveri had come to the group through Castillo. The recordings for the album had taken place in NRG Studios in Los Angeles with producer Zeuss before it was mixed in the same studios by Kyle McAulay .

style

Matthias Mader described Burn Babylon Burn! in his book New York Hardcore Volume 2. The Sound of the Big Apple as a masterpiece of New York Hardcore, which one can confidently classify between the Cro-Mags albums The Age of Quarrel and Best Wishes . It is a universal album that is just as up-to-date in 1985 as it is in 2011 or 2080. The album occasionally reminds of the Bad Brains and partly has Thrash Metal influences. Stylistically, one ties in with the sound of the Cro-Mags. According to Joseph, the album has hardcore, metal and punk influences and is hard and aggressive as a result. In the texts one criticizes the status quo of modern consumer society and calls for the overthrow of the capitalist system. The " Babylon " stands for all industrialized countries, especially the USA. Personal and autobiographical texts are also available. Mader wrote in Rock Hard about Up in Arms that the band played a mixture of hardcore punk and groove metal on the previous album , but that they have now arrived at pure New York hardcore, which he also attributed to the line-up change. In an interview with him, Joseph stated that the album is a spiritual , but not a religious release. The album is about how people's consciousness changes, which Joseph felt was necessary. Overall, people would begin to think more independently and defend themselves against politics and pharmaceutical companies. In addition, the number of vegans and vegetarians is increasing . Mader also reviewed the album in the same issue. While there was still a slight Nu-Metal influence on the previous album , now "combative-spiritual Krishna core of the very best kind" can be heard. Mader also found that Joseph's singing sounded more and more like that of the Bad Brains. The album surpassed the Cro-Mags classics The Age of Quarrel and Best Wishes . Matthias Weckmann from Metal Hammer also reviewed the album and found it to be both classic and pure hardcore punk. "Schmiss, hooklines and socially critical drool" are combined in the music.
