John Joseph (* 3. October 1962 in New York City as John Joseph McGowan ), also known as John Bloodclot , is an American punk - and hardcore punk singer and author who primarily by the Cro-Mags became known .

Life

John Joseph grew up as an orphan on the streets of New York City and joined the punk scene in the late 1970s / early 1980s. He was a founding member of the New York hardcore punk band Cro-Mags and was involved in constant arguments with bassist Harley Flanagan . Through the influence of HR, singer of the Bad Brains , he found spirituality and finally the belief in Krishna , which has since determined the lyrics of the Cro-Mags. He also became a vegetarian and later a vegan and brought this attitude to life into the hardcore punk of the New York scene.

At the end of the 1980s he left the Cro-Mags in a dispute and hired himself as a roadie for the Bad Brains. A reunion of the Cro-Mags in the 1990s failed again due to the disputes between the two members. Since 2008, after several years of name disputes, Joseph has been touring the United States as Cro-Mags with a new line-up. A new album is currently being planned.

In the 1990s, Joseph was the singer in the hardcore punk band Both Worlds .

In addition to his musical activities, Joseph published the autobiography The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon in 2007 . He also appeared in the documentaries New York Hardcore and American Hardcore . He also runs a health center in New York. In 2010 the book Meat is for Pussies was published , which deals with vegan nutrition, training and health.
