action

New York with a full moon, the eponymous blood-red moon. Little by little, a philosophizing, masked serial killer challenges some martial arts masters of different styles to a duel in order to then murder them. The perpetrator, a gifted kung fu fighter, follows his own plans of revenge and kills the winners of various championships almost without a trace, to which he was once not invited due to a disqualification. In addition, the unscrupulous manslaughter named Chad mocks the local police by providing them with puzzling clues. The villain feels safe as he has been listed as dead in police files since a car accident.

The investigating NYPD detective Chuck Baker, an African American who is always in a good mood, is initially groping in the dark. After a total of four murder cases and faltering investigations, Baker is ordered to visit his predecessor and ex-cop Ken O'Hara, not least because of ongoing public pressure. He is initially not interested in reactivation, as he is plagued by traumatic events from his service. However, when his former teacher, a kendo master, becomes the next victim of the serial killer, he finally works with Detective Baker.

Despite initial dislike, the unequal colleagues form a powerful team. At some point, the duo succeeds in deciphering fragments of the messages that lead to O'Hara's battle-hardened niece Kelly. You save the petite woman's life. Then Chuck and Ken intensify their efforts to discover the identity of the villain. They discover similarities in the dead: they are exclusively masters of various martial arts.

When O'Hara threatens to expose the murderer, he takes revenge on the family of the officer. Kelly is first murdered before turning to Chad O'Hara's wife and daughter; he takes her hostage . In a final effort, Ken finally manages to save his family and kill Chad.
