Coordinates: 33 ° 42 ′  S , 150 ° 18 ′  E The City of Blue Mountains is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 1,431.1 km² and has about 77,000 inhabitants.

Blue Mountains is located in the Sydney Surrounds, the area directly adjacent to the metropolis of Sydney , and is about 100 km to the west of the city center. The area includes 50 hamlets and hamlets, including Bell, Blackheath, Blaxland, Faulconbridge, Glenbrook, Hazelbrook, Katoomba , Lawson, Leura, Linden, Medlow Bath, Mount Victoria, Mount Wilson, Springwood, Warrimoo, Wentworth Falls and Woodford. The seat of the City Council is in the city of Katoomba in the west of the LGA, where about 8,000 people live.

The city is named after part of the Great Dividing Range, the Blue Mountains , which run parallel to the coast from north to south in the hinterland of Sydney.

The Blue Mountains City Council has twelve members who are elected by the residents of the four wards (three councilors each from First, Second, Third and Fourth Ward). These four districts are defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.

The Korowal School from Hazelbrook has a school partnership with the primary school in Mulo ( East Timor ).
