Until his arrest he was one of the campaign managers of presidential candidate John McCain in Florida.

Bob Allen has campaigned for a ban on gay marriage in the Florida Constitution and opposed a law against bullying among gay and lesbian students. In early 2007, Bob Allen had introduced a bill to the Florida House of Representatives. This should punish sex in public places more severely. The bill was rejected. Therefore, according to the still valid old law, all could be sentenced to a maximum of one year in prison.
