Bobby Allen (born November 14, 1978 in Weymouth , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey defender who has held the status of an unrestricted free agent since 2008.

Career

Bobby Allen began his career as a hockey player in 1997 for the Boston College ice hockey team . During the 1998 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected as the 52nd overall player by the Boston Bruins . For the Boston farm team , the Providence Bruins from the American Hockey League , he gave Allen his professional ice hockey debut in the 2001/02 season. In 2002 he was given to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Sean Brown . Towards the end of the 2001/02 season, Allen first played for the Oilers AHL farm team, the Hamilton Bulldogs . In the following season, Allen was almost exclusively in the Bulldogs squad. Although Allen played in the National Hockey League for Edmonton for the first time in the 2002/03 season , it was his only assignment for the team, because in the 2003/04 season the American was exclusively in the roster of the Oilers' newly formed farm team, the Toronto Roadrunners .

On July 22, 2004, he received a contract with the New Jersey Devils as a free agent . The following two years, however, the defender played again exclusively in the AHL for the New Jersey farm team, the Albany River Rats .

On July 17, 2006 Allen signed again as a free agent with his ex-club Boston Bruins . Although he was initially in the squad of the Providence Bruins farm team , he made his debut for Boston on January 17, 2007 in a game against the Buffalo Sabers . By the end of the season he played in 31 games and posted his first three assists . In the 2007/08 season Allen was only in the Boston squad, but did not renew his contract. Subsequently, however, Allen did not find a new club, so that he has been committed as a free agent since 2008.
