Robert "Bobby" Noble (born December 18, 1945 in Manchester ) is a former English football player . The left full-back won the English championship with Manchester United in 1967 and was considered one of the club's greatest talents. However, he had to end his career prematurely after a car accident in which he was seriously injured at the age of 21.

Athletic career

Noble joined Manchester United's youth division in June 1961, and in the month of his 17th birthday, he was promoted to the professional division before the turn of 1962-63. Together with George Best he won the FA Youth Cup in 1964 and in the final victory against Swindon Town he even led the team as captain on the field. As a full-back , he was considered a great talent on the left at the time. He was characterized by speed, tough duels, good ball handling, timing and high anticipation skills.

On April 9, 1966, he made his debut on the occasion of a 2-1 loss to Leicester City in the top English division and when Manchester United set out to win the English championship in the 1966/67 season , Noble was one of the cornerstones of the successful team . From October 1966 he replaced Tony Dunne on the left, who in turn represented Shay Brennan on the right and completed a total of 29 games in a row.

The last one ended goalless at Sunderland AFC on April 22, 1967, and on the way home from that away game, Noble got into a serious car accident with life-threatening injuries. Although he worked hard on his return, it was no longer granted to him. In 1970 he finally buried this hope and announced his resignation.
