Bodo Broschat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bodo Broschat (born February 1, 1959 in Neuruppin ) is a German medalist and coin designer .

Career

Bodo Broschat learned the craft of steel engraving at the VEB Münze der GDR , today State Mint Berlin . When he later worked at the mint, he was responsible for making stamps based on drafts by medalists, a job that was already being done by machine in the Federal Republic of Germany . This is why Broschat is one of the few well-known medalists today who are able to implement their designs directly as a die. In parallel to his work, Broschat attended a course with Heinz Hoyer at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and the master school. In 1990 he earned the master's title and founded his own workshop in Berlin-Marzahn .

Work in coin design

In 1991, Broschat took part in a competition to design a German commemorative coin for the first time; the first coin based on his design was minted in 2002 for the 100th anniversary of the underground in Germany. Since then, several other commemorative coins designed by Broschat have appeared, including a 100-euro gold coin in 2007 on the theme of UNESCO World Heritage - Hanseatic City of Lübeck . At the beginning of 2010, the 2 euro commemorative coin Bremen from the series of federal states appeared as the first circulation coin of Broschat .
