Bodo Christ

Bodo Christ (born February 4, 1941 in Greene ; † January 30, 2016 ) was a German physician and anatomist. His research focus was on molecular embryology and thusogenesis .

Life

Christ studied medicine from 1961 to 1966 at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . There he did his doctorate in 1968 with Erich Blechschmidt . He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Göttingen Anatomical Institute. He continued this from 1971 to 1976 at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1975 he completed his habilitation there with Klaus Hinrichsen . He then became a professor at the Institute for Anatomy and Head of the Department of Developmental Biology at the Ruhr University in Bochum in 1976. In 1990 he moved to the Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . There he founded the Department of Molecular Embryology and headed it until his retirement in 2006. Furthermore, Christ was from 1997 to 1999 as dean of the medical faculty and from 2002 to 2006 held the post of chairman of the anatomical society .

Christ was an honorary member of the American Association of Anatomists , holder of the Medal of Honor of the Medical Faculty of Charles University in Prague and an honorary doctorate from the University of Alexandru Ioan Cuza Iași in Romania . Since 2001 he has been a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .

Christ was married and had children.
