Boediono (born February 25, 1943 in Blitar , East Java ) is an Indonesian politician and has been Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia since 2009 .

Life

Career

Boediono began studying at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta in the 1960s . In 1967 he graduated from the University of Western Australia in Perth with a degree in economics and obtained his master’s degree from Monash University in Melbourne in 1972 . In 1979 he received his PhD from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania . Boediono then worked as a professor of macroeconomics and monetary policy at Gadjah Mada University.

Boediono was Vice President of Indonesia's Central Bank Bank Indonesia from 1997 to 1998 and then Minister for Land Development from 1998 to October 1999. In 2001, President Megawati Sukarnoputri appointed him Minister of Finance of her government. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono appointed Boediono as Minister of Economic Affairs in a cabinet reshuffle in 2005. In 2008 he was elected chairman of Bank Indonesia. In 2009, Yudhoyono chose him as his running for the presidency. After winning the election, Boediono was elected Vice President of the Republic.

Boediono is married and has two children.
