Bogdan Pawlowitsch Willewalde
Bogdan Pavlovich (Gottfried) Willewalde ( Russian Богдан Павлович Виллевальде , scientific. Transliteration Bogdan Pavlovič Villeval'de * 1818 or 1819 in Pavlovsk near St. Petersburg , † April 10 . Jul / 23. April 1903 . Greg in Dresden ) was a Russian Painter and educator .
From 1838 to 1842 he studied at the Petersburg Art Academy . Here he studied under the direction of Al Sauerweid .
Willewalde painted impressive large paintings, which were dedicated to historical victories of Russia, but also reflected official social events. An example of this is the Monument to Thousand Years of Russia (Тысячелетие России) in Novgorod . In addition, he devoted himself to topics of current and more recent Russian history, including war events. He often traveled to theaters of war in order to understand the local conditions.
