Bogdanusa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bogdanusa (also Bogdanuša) is a Croatian white wine variety . The vine comes from the island of Hvar , where it represents the majority of the area under vines. It is the second most important grape variety on the island of Brač . On the mainland, the main distribution area is in an area between Split and Makarska .

The variety bears grapes that produce a dry golden yellow wine with an alcohol content of up to 13 percent by volume. It is also served as Prošek , a Dalmatian dessert wine .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy white wool. The bronze-colored young leaves, however, are hairy cobwebs.
  • The medium-sized leaves are five-lobed and have a medium-thick, well- rounded shape (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is lyren-shaped open. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set closely in comparison to the grape varieties. The leaf surface (also called blade) is blistered and rough.
  • The cylindrical to conical grape is medium to large in size, shouldered and usually moderately dense, as the variety is very tricky. The berries are medium to large in size and whitish-yellow in color and are speckled with brown when ripe. The berry skin is thick.

The berries ripen about 30 to 35 days after those of the Gutedel . According to international standards, the variety is therefore considered to ripen late.

The yields are usually too high in deep soils, so that a targeted grape thinning must be used to reduce the yield in order to achieve good wine quality. Bogdanusa is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
