The Boitzturm in the Hundisburg district of Haldensleber is an early Gothic residential tower of a Hundisburger Burgmann family . In the local register of monuments , the tower at Hauptstraße 38b is listed as a particularly outstanding monument from the early days of Hundisburg .

history

The first indication of the existence of Hundisburger Burgmannen, whose task was to protect the castle, comes from the year 1266. In the year 1323 the family name Botze is mentioned for the first time, which is later changed to Boitz. The family died out in 1577. Originally there were six Burgmannenhöfe with defensive towers in Hundisburg, which were manned by regional noble families. These free castle estates became the starting point for the later settlement, especially when the nearby village of Nordhusen fell into desolation. Only the Boitzturm remains.

The well-fortified residential tower was built in the second half of the 13th century. A farm yard belonged to the tower. The facility is located about 250 meters southeast of the castle (the former castle), below the castle hill. The courtyard area was heavily rebuilt after 1860 as part of the construction of the Unterhof and Boitzgasse . The tower and annex are now privately owned, used for residential purposes and rented out as a holiday home.

architecture

The tower made of quarry stone is square and multi-storey. In the basement there is a cap vault , the floor above has a barrel vault , the other two each have around 1660 flat ceilings . The entrance to the tower was originally on the second floor; still present today with a pointed arch . This former, representative living area (knight's hall) is provided with a fireplace and decorative windows. Here there are two bifor windows with clover leaf arches . Thanks to the barrel vault and locking bolt locks to the lower floors, it was a safe haven. The roofed upper floor originally had battlements . Slit windows and the remains of a toilet bay can also be seen on the residential tower . On the east side of the tower is a 19th century building made of quarry stone with a half-timbered top, it was initially used as a warehouse and is now inhabited.
