The Unterhof (also known as the old sheep farm ) in the Hundisburg district of Haldensleber was used from 1860 onwards and was used primarily for the administration of the Hundisburg Castle as a sheep farm . The ensemble is registered in the local register of monuments as an indispensable historical and urban monument. The manor is connected with the breeding achievements of Hermann von Nathusius .

location

The building ensemble is located southeast below the palace and is enclosed on two sides by the main street , which bends at right angles here, and on one side by Magdeburger Straße and Boitzgasse . The manor is adjacent to the Magdeburg Gate, which was built until 1740 .

history

Originally the new pleasure garden of the Hundisburger Schloss was located here . By 1840, the then owner of the castle and estate, Hermann von Nathusius, a 150 hectare large deciduous forest between Hundisburg and Althaldensleben let the Gräwig, cut down. He put a large part of the proceeds into the construction of the new manor - a large sheepfold and other stables as well as a modern alcohol distillery were built here . The investment paid off: "... the financial result was a very favorable one." The new courtyard, which was put into operation from 1860, was referred to as "Unterhof" to distinguish it from the existing "Oberhof" on the Schlossberg behind the castle. The stables were mainly used for sheep farming. The large stable building along today's main road is around 150 meters long and is impressive. It is built using quarry stone . The village of Hundisburg is shaped by the architecture of this building.

Sheep have been bred in Hundisburg since 1590. The Hundisburger merino sheep herd was little known until the middle of the 19th century. Hermann von Nathusius gave decisive impulses for merino breeding by purchasing a rambouillet ram. The Hundisburger sheep breeding retained great importance from then until the time of the GDR. By crossbreeding with the mosham sheep soft and supple wool could be obtained. Mettenburger sheep, Leicester sheep and Southdown sheep were crossed for meat production .

The castle and manors remained in the possession of the Nathusius family for two more generations . After the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the land reform in East Germany , expropriation without compensation took place in September 1945 . During the GDR era, the estate remained as a unit and was managed as a provincial estate and later as a state-owned estate . After the reunification , the Unterhof was no longer used for agricultural purposes; the buildings began to deteriorate and had different owners. In 2016, the property developer Pro-Jent Gesellschaft SL, founded in 2000 and based in Palma de Mallorca, acquired the courtyard ensemble. The managing director of this company, Axel Lutz Fingerhut, founded the association "Hundisburger Bauernhof eV" with other business people in March 2008. This association planned to set up an "Archehof" with agricultural and tourist use on the site. In addition, according to the guidelines of the Society for the Conservation of Old and Endangered Pet Breeds, endangered pet breeds (such as Harz goats, saddle pigs , Bentheim pigs or rough-wooled Pomeranian sheep ) should be bred. In addition, the operation of a café, hay hotel, farm shop, playground, caravan parking space and petting zoo were planned. In the summer of 2010, the building permits for the building projects (hay hotel, courtyard café, holiday apartments and museum) were issued. The renovation and renovation should be completed by 2014. Apart from the accommodation of some animals, the project has not yet been implemented, the facility continues to fall into disrepair. According to the investor, securing of the damaged building is planned for 2019.
